rigoberta menchu tum is a guatemalan indian who has overcome many obsticles in life. by the time she was 25, she had recieved the nobel peace prize and gained world recognition for her accomplishments. she had seen your brither tortured and killed, overcome a life of poverty, and her mother and father were also murdered. she fled guatemala and sought refuge in mexico. there she was given the ides to go before the un and tell them her story, which was documented and published as an autobiograghy. she now lives in guatemala city with her husband and son, and with the money recieved from the nobel peace prize, she has opened the rigoberta menchu tum foundation. it continues to help indigenious peoples worldwide and acts as a communicator between them.
