Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 An Introduction of William Wordsworth and Tao Yuan Ming
William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 - 23 April 1850) was a major
English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch
the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical
Ballads (1798).
Wordsworth's magnum opus is generally considered to be The Prelude, a
semiautobiographical poem of his early years that he revised and expanded a
number of times. It was posthumously titled and published, before which it
was generally known as "the poem to Coleridge".[1] Wordsworth was
Britain's Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death in 1850.
Tao Yuan Ming was born in modern Jiujiang, Jiangxi, was one of the most
influential pre-Tang Dynasty Chinese poets.
He came from a notable family which had descended into poverty; when
young, he was torn between ambition and a desire to retreat into solitude.
His great-grandfather was the famous Eastern Jin general and governor, Tao
Kan. He served in a series of minor posts, but his sister's death, as well
as disgust at the corruption and infighting of the Jin Court prompted his
resignation, convincing him that life was too short to compromise on his
principles; as he put it himself, he would not "bow like a servant in
return for five bushels of grain". He lived in retirement for his last 22
years.
??
??Approximately 130 of his works survive. Most of them were poems or
essays, which depict an idyllic pastoral life of farming and drinking;
because of this he would later be termed the "Poet of the Fields". While
his poems were not influential in his time, they would later be a major
influence on the poetry of the Tang and Song Dynasties.
1.2 An Introduction of I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud and Drinking Wine

I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced;
but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay;
In such a jocund company;
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude,
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
Wondered Lonely as a Cloud is the representative work of William
Wordsworth's romantic poetry.It described the prettiest grace of daffodils.
Drinking Wine (V)
I have built my cottage amongest the throng of men,
And yet there is no noise of horse and of carrige.
You ask me, how can it be? and I reply:
When my heart is absent the place itself is absent;
For I pick chrysanthemums under the eastern hedge,
And far away to the south I can see the mountains,
And the mountains mists are lovely at morning and evening,
While birds keep flying across and back again.
In all these things there lies a profound meaning.
I was going to explain...but now I forget what it was.
Drinking Wine is mainly express the interest of seclusion. It described
that the poet picked the chrysanthemum after finishing a day's work and
drinking to drunk . All of the surrouding landscape seem to blend into the
emotions .
