Despite the civil rights amendments being passed over 40 years ago, racism continues to
exist greatly in America. A good example of this is the southern-based organization
called the Ku Klux Klan. Immediately following the Civil War, this group came about in
the Reconstruction Era. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is one of America’s oldest and most
feared groups. Driven by the dream of a world with only one master race, the KKK often
uses violence and moves above the law to promote their cause: white supremacy.

Believe it or not, the original members meant of the KKK to be a hilarious social club
that would be full of aimless fun, though in later years the KKK became known for their
violence against people outside the white race and people who associated with them. With
the history that Americans have of the KKK it is hard to believe that it was started
because of a few people wanting to have some innocent fun, not because they were intending
to start a chain of violence on anyone outside the white race.
